Through a biennial examination, you may notice a large or firm uterus. This would remind you to conduct more imaging studies, such as an ultrasonography scan. If a patient presents with symptoms of uterine fibroids, then confirmation is needed.

The gold standard for diagnosis is ultrasonography scan. You would want to do transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasonography scan because you cannot see all types of fibroids from a transvaginal ultrasound. I’ll always order transvaginal and transabdominal scans, so I can make sure to get the full picture of what I am treating.
