The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are currently investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Dublin infection that has been linked to ground beef.

Salmonella was found in samples of blood of 5 patients. Illness in this outbreak has been shown to be more severe than in average outbreaks, with 8 of the 10 cases involving hospitalization, including 1 death. The average hospitalization rate for similar outbreaks is 20%. Whole genome sequencing has not revealed any antibiotic resistance in any of the 10 patients or in 6 food specimens.

At this time, a point of origin for the outbreak has not been identified, and the CDC is currently not warning consumers to stop eating thoroughly cooked ground beef.
