After years of debate and battles surrounding California’s cap on medical malpractice awards, lawmakers have reached an agreement to replace a ballot measure raising medical malpractice caps with legislation. The new legislation will raise the cap on noneconomic damages—also known as “pain and suffering”—over a 10-year period.
